Toddler Cooking - Banana Smoothie

If you follow me on Instagram , you know I love to have my toddler help out in the kitchen. I find it lowers the stress when I need to prep food or when he's already hungry and needs a good distraction. He's also more likely to eat items he's helped prepare. I try to include him in the grocery shopping and encourage him to pick out an ingredient he's never tried before that we can cook together.

At first I started with basics. I gave him a wooden cutting board and a cheese 'knife' to cut a banana. Then it was sprinkling seasoning on potatoes to roast and mixing them up, mixing muffin batter, buttering is own bread, etc. It will be messy at first but your child will love it and it will give them a sense of pride and one on one time they wouldn't otherwise experience.

Now that Taylor has been helping me for a while, I give him more complex tasks like adding all of the ingredients (one scoop of this, one of that, etc.) and (if it's safe) he can eat and sample some along the way. One of the more recent things we started making is banana smoothies. You can hide so many good things in smoothies and enjoy them together. Taylor only drinks milk and water so adding in a healthy beverage makes him feel like a big kid lol. I just had him dump all the ingredients in the Baby Bullet and blended it up. Easy-peasy!

You can also strain the shake for your child to get out any leftover lumps if they're picky.

My banana smoothie recipe:
1 cup milk
1 cup of your favorite yogurt
1 tbs hemp hemps
1 tbs quick oats
1 tsp ground flax
