5 Outdoor Activities To Do With Children

Outdoor Activities With Kids by Toronto Style Edit

In warmer weather, it is significantly easier come up with fun (and inexpensive) family activities that will keep the kids entertained without completely draining mom and dad. Living in a condo with two small kids means I know a thing or two about needing to head outside for different activities, Here are my top 5 Summer activities to do with children in the city.

Have a picnic or a tea party
This one is easy and we do it often! Whether it's going up to our roofyop or the splash pad at the park. On rainy days, we just eat on the floor and invite our favorite toys to shake things up a bit.

Impromptu Photo Session
I love taking pictures with the changing leaves before it gets too chilly. It's a great way to connect with nature and teach the kids about the changing seasons and gather leaves for art projects later. In Toronto, we love going to Allen Gardens, Riverdale Farm, and the garden at the Law Society.

Garden
Okay, clearly this is not my garden but teaching children respect for all living things is important. Of course it's natural for kids to want to pick and tear plants and flowers but I always remind Taylor not to, and encourage him to play with the blooms that have already fallen off. I also always say that he shouldn't pick flowers 'unless its for me or one of his grandma's'! lol
As mentioned above, I live in a condo so planting a small plant or flower that we can tend to and grow in our unit is also fun! ...And way less maintenance than a pet!

Splash Pad - Kids + Water = so much fun!
Also, it tuckers them out and nap-time is a breeze (as long as you don't miss the sleep window!)

Hit up a Farmers Market
I always find perusing a market so relaxing, even with kids (as long as they're strapped tight in the stroller!) and there's almost always pie! lol
I also like to have Taylor pick an ingredient or two that he can help prep and cook because he's way more likely to eat it!
